Abstract
Chronic low back pain and its associated disabilities occasionally do not respond to ordinary conservative treatments, and represent a significant health problems. Although the exact pathomechanics of backache with or without radiculopathy
remains
unclear, it is well accepted that mechanical, inflammatory, and autoimmune processes are combined.
We have studied the effect of epidural steroid injection in low back pain and/or sciatica with regarding to clinical findings and CT findings. One hundred and thirty two cases have bean treated at Kyungpook National University Hospital from July
1989 to
Jan. 1993.
@ES The results were as follows.

2. A better result was noted in the patients with acute symptoms and recurrent symptoms comparing with chronic symptoms.
3. The patients who had only nerve root irritajon signs presented excellent improvement.
4. The patients who had spinal stenosis and degenerative spondylitis also were improved but the improvement was transient.
5. The patients who had obvious nerve root compression, structural abnormalities or post-operative pain did not respond to this treatment modality.
